Installing CSI on a Macintosh computer

To install/re-install CSI on a Macintosh computer, you are required to enter an administrator's user-name and password. CSI cannot be installed without these details.

Changes to settings have not been applied

If you have made changes to CSI's settings but they don't seem to have been applied, try closing all browser windows.

Can't see my certificates when I'm asked to select one

There are several reasons why you might not see the certificate you want to use:

  • Multiple user profiles

Each user has their own certificate store. Over time, if you install several digital certificates using different details, you may create multiple profiles. CSI treats these profiles as different users.

If you do not see the digital certificate you want to use (and you know it is installed on the computer you are using), try logging in under your other user profiles.

  • Multiple domains

As well as being unique to user profiles, CSI stores are unique to particular domains. If you know the user profile is correct, check you are logged in to the domain where you installed your digital certificate.

Can't see my certificates in the CSI management utility

If you use a network with roaming profiles, you will need to change your CSI management utility shortcut in order to see your digital certificates.

  1. Right click the shortcut and drag the mouse down to the properties menu item. Left click on this item.

This should display a dialogue box with four tab panes.

  1. Select the "Shortcut" tab. This should contain a text box called "Target."
  2. Insert the string -Duser.home="%USERPROFILE%" after the end of the "javawforcsi.exe" section and before the au.gov.bafcsi.clapi.crypto.CsiManager section ensuring that a space exists between each section.
  3. Click "Apply" and "Ok" to close the dialogue box.

Test the new shortcut by opening the management utility. You should now be able to see your digital certificates.

Moving digital certificates

If you want to install your digital certificates on several computers, you will need to install CSI on each computer as well.

Instructions for moving digital certificates between computers.

Backing up your digital certificates

CSI stores your digital certificates in a folder called ".csi".

The location of this folder will vary depending on how you log on to your computer.

Read our instructions for how to back up the digital certificates in your certificate store.

CSI has warned me that my certificate is about to expire.

You will need to contact the organisation who issued your digital certificate and organise a replacement before it expires. Expired certificates cannot be used with CSI.
